When starting to think about how to write resume content for your next job application you need to ask yourself what is a resume really for. This is a very important question and will go along way to determining you success in the job market.

Many people start writing their resume under the assumption that it is their marketing piece. A page full of information to sell themselves when they get that interview. Or they think a resumes purpose is not to get them the job but to get them an interview. Both these approaches are flawed simply because when that all important person at the company reads your resume, they are looking for one or possibly two things.

So here’s the key to success – Your resume should not be about you, it should be about the company you want to work for and specifically it should show them how you are going to help the company become more successful and profitable. So you should ask yourself what does my resume do for the manager I want to work for.

Use this mindset when you start to look at how to write resume content because in doing so will get you off to a flying start and give you a head-start over your rivals.
